The Laws of Simplicity, by John Maeda

I am sorry for not writing anything. I was quite busy the last days. Way too many things in my head and too much things changing and shifting around me. I feel quite lost. So I am very happy about my newest discovery ^_^. The Laws of Simplicity, by John Maeda. John – a noted professor at the MIT Media Lab – wrote the book “The Laws of Simplicity” 2005 to early 2006 and continues to develop the thoughts that surround the paradoxically complex topic of simplicity on his blog.

10 rules to live work and design by…

Law 1: Reduce

The simplest way to achieve simplicity is through thoughtful reduction.

Law 2: Organize

Organization makes a system of many appear fewer.

Law 3: Time

Savings in time feel like simplicity.

Law 4: Learn

Knowledge makes everything simpler.

Law 5: Differences

Simplicity and complexity need each other.

Law 6: Context

What lies in the periphery of simplicity is denitely not peripheral.

Law 7: Emotion

More emotions are better than less.

Law 8: Trust

In simplicity we trust.

Law 9: Failure

Some things can never be made simple.

Law 10: The One

Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious, and adding the meaningful.

Welcome @ The Lighthouse Keeper’s cat.
which is ... erm ... is in total flux! I decided to move my creative musing - bit by bit - to minu.co.nz (my artist / illustrator alias), and extend my blogging about all things web-ish ... for the time being ... which is the time before I get my new top secret project up.

Please bear with me! ...and enjoy the chaos between street art, printmaking, information architecture and interaction design.
