This a follow up of the post “Gridding the 960 using a 16px-based-ruler” about a month ago and is based on the recent discussions about using baselines or a basic leading for typography on websites.

In my last webdesign layouts I tried to establish a baseline not only for the typography, but for the hole page. I have chosen 20px for the basic leading. This may seem quite high, but with a font size of 12px the line height is 1,667em which suits the typeface, text and measure.

Also via Print and Pattern I found LU prints - hand-printed artwork on kitchen linens, table linens and clothing. They have their online shop (a nice one) @ bigcartel. I took a closer look at the application and I think it is a nice shopping system, created for Bands & Record Labels, Clothing Companies, Crafters & Artists and an alternative to shopify. Striped from useless features you will find a plain, simple, easy to use shopping system.

Yesterday I tested a feed on iTunes for a VodCasting project of a friend of mine and something really strange happened: Everything was fine, but after the video was downloaded iTunes didn`t play it, giving an error “file not compatible, or corrupted”. Since I tested the file offline I knew that the file was just fine! It took me quite a while till I found out what was wrong:

Whenever i try to design something for myself i just don`t get it right and nothing is good enough. So when i finally came up with a solution for the design for “The Lighthouse Keepers Cat” that was a weight off my mind and i think a relief for The Viech also, because the night before i was sitting in front of my computer crying that i can`t design anything and that i am the world biggest looser…

There is an update to this post: “Gridding the 960 using a 20px-based-ruler and a 20px baseline”. Sometimes you even have to change your dearest beliefs ^_^!

A few days ago i did study “The Elements of Typographic Style Applied to the Web - a practical guide to web typography” and i was again amazed how good this article is. I talked with The Viech about it. So today he send me another article about “Setting Type on the Web to a Baseline Grid” by a list apart .

Today i picked the basic color-informations form the K2-Theme and overwrote them in my style to have an easier access for editing the colors… I am still quite happy with the K2-Theme (it is still in beta…), but i will change some parts and add other PlugIns - as i have already done. But the basic idea to extract “the loop” and give it its own page is great and i think these guys are doing a great job.
